Hello there,

My name is Patrik Wintergerst. I am originally from Germany but studied at the University of Groningen in the Netherlands. The UG consistently ranks in the top 100 globally across all major university rankings and offers most of its programmes exclusively in English. I graduated top of my selective department and was awarded an honours graduation medal. I pursued a double major, combining humanities and social sciences on one side with neuroscience, psychology, and computing on the other.

I offer tutoring across a wide range of subjects, including English Literature, Psychology, Neuroscience, and Critical Thinking, at IB/AP levels or equivalent. In DSE terms, key subejcts would be Humanities Subjects, Design and Applied Technology, ICT, as well as English & German Language. While I am flexible and have experience working with students from Junior Secondary to university undergraduate levels, my approach is always tailored to meet individual needs. I also have a strong interest in working with local DSE students and am keen to adapt my teaching to align with the requirements of the Hong Kong curriculum.

I believe learning should be meaningful to students, as genuine curiosity is the key to lasting knowledge. My approach focuses on helping pupils master the fundamentals and build their understanding in a way that resonates with them, ensuring deep comprehension rather than surface-level familiarity. At the same time, I recognise the importance of achieving tangible academic goals, whether preparing for exams, improving overall performance, or developing skills for school admissions.

With half a decade of tutoring experience, I have worked extensively in English with speakers of other languages, helping students express themselves confidently and clearly—a crucial skill for success in both international and local school systems in Hong Kong. I have TESOL training and have held leadership roles such as chairman of the student writing association and student-chair of the education board. I have also volunteered in gifted and immigrant student support and even taught theatre at one point.

After graduating, I decided to travel, seeking new challenges and opportunities to learn. When I arrived in Hong Kong, I was impressed by the emphasis placed on education and the genuine enthusiasm for learning. This inspired me to explore tutoring here.

Since I will not be living in Hong Kong permanently until 2025, I am currently offering online tutoring only. I strive to make my lessons interactive and effective, with flexible scheduling to fit around students’ busy school and extracurricular timetables.
