Expressive English & Geography Tutor — For Independent Learners Beyond Exams

Hello, my name is Ivan, and I grew up in Hong Kong. I’m passionate about teaching English and Geography in ways that go beyond exam drills, focusing instead on expressive communication, learner dignity, and global contexts.

📝 I hold multiple TEFL certifications, including the 120‑hour Advanced TEFL Certificate, specialized training in the Level 5 Award for Online & One‑to‑One teaching, and the TEFL Classroom Methodologies Certificate.

🎓 I graduated from SUNY Albany with a degree in Geography and Urban Planning. My teaching journey has included volunteering as an online English tutor for Ukrainian refugees since June 2023, and serving as a Cantonese teaching assistant at a Hong Kong nonprofit, engaging with ethnic minority learners.

🌍 I’m passionate about travel and cultural exchange. My journeys have taken me across the United States — from New York to New Orleans to Washington State — and internationally to Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Australia, Vietnam, Thailand, Greece, and Turkey.

📷 I’m also a keen photographer, capturing stories from my travels. 📖 Since childhood, I’ve been fascinated by linguistics, and I’ve studied Chinese, Cantonese, English, and some French. 🔊 I speak with both neutral British and American accents — you can find samples on my YouTube page.
